The Pointer is full of energy, loyal, devoted, kind and gentle with children. Hunting instinct develop early. Make sure to socialize early to avoid timidity. Some can be high strung(Field pointers). The show lines make better family pets. They require a lot of excercise and will make for a better companion for joggers, hikers and cyclist.
Grooming Requirements
Brush with a firm bristle daily. Wipe with a towel or chamois. Bathe as necessary (not to often though, every 8 weeks or more). Examine feet and ears regularly.
Breed History
The Pointer was developed in england two centuries ago by crossing the Foxhound, Bloodhound, Greyhound, Newfoundland, Setter and the Bulldog. Wow! what a combination, but it work. It has existed for 80 some years.They were first recorded in 1650 as hare/rabbit dogs, by the 1700s they were the hunting dog of choice by the nobilities thus solidifying their place in the sporting group.
