Daily combing and brushing is essential to get that silky hair and to prevent matting. Clean the eyes regularly as well as the beard to prevent staining. Bathe every 3-4 wks make sure the ears are cleaned regularly too. The hair on top of the head is usually tied to a knot to free the eyes. For its long hair, ironically it does not shed as much.
Breed History
Developed in Italy by adding poodle and miniature spaniel to its line. It was thought that these dogs were brought home by Crusaders returning from the Mediterranean. They immediately became popular with women as well as royalties. One in particular was the Roman governor of Malta named Publius. He loved his dog Issa so much that he had poetry written about her.
