Collies are Tolerant of rain and cold weather. They are very good as herding dogs. If kept as a family dog they require a lot of exercise.
Indoor Collies tend to shed a lot more than their outdoor counterparts. Extremely loyal and wary of strangers. This livestock
guardian is very territorial with strong protective instincts.
Grooming Requirements
Collies need daily coat brushing to prevent matted hairs.
Bathing once every 6 weeks with mild shampoos and a strong conditioner.
Make sure to prevent nasal sunburn with proper blockers.
Breed History
Collies were another of the herding dogs originally bred in Scotland, although their ancestry was beleived to have originated from Iceland. They gained popularity when Queen Victoria brought these dogs back after her visit from Scotland in the 1850's. The rough collie became the more popular of the two mainly because of the Lassie films.
